Obituary: James E. ‘Ed’ Cummins, 79, St. Augustine, Fla.

JAMES E. “ED” CUMMINS

James E. “Ed” Cummins, 79, a resident of St. Augustine, Fla., since 1990, went to be with the Lord on March 7, 2019 surrounded by friends and family at the Bailey Center after an extended illness. He loved working with his hands and was an avid fisherman and carpenter. He retired from Luhrs Corporation in 2002 and was a long time member of Anastasia Baptist Church. He was born in Miami, Fla., and grew up in Pearson, Ga., and Harrodsburg before marrying and residing in both Florida and Kentucky. He became a Christian early in his life, sang in a gospel quartet, and all who knew him knew he walked with the Lord.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Edwin Cummins Sr. and Emily Meeks Cummins.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Anne Nettles Cummins; three daughters, Luci (John) Bradford of Mayfield, Brenda (Glen) Bayers of Jacksonville, Fla., and Ginger (Rod) Rodriguez of Elkton, Fla.; one son, Jack Cummins of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Brenda (Jim) Cummins Bright of Fishers, Ind. and Marta Maria (John) Louthan of London; two brothers, Paul (Bonnie) Cummins of Harrodsburg and John (Linda) Cummins of St. Augustine, Fla.; and seven grandchildren, Jim Cummins, Jesse Rodriguez, Will Bayers, Sarah Bradford, Annie Bayers, Emily Bradford, and Benjamin Bayers.

The memorial service is 11 a.m. March 9, 2019, at Anastasia Baptist Church, 1650 A1A South in St. Augustine, Fla.

Memorial gifts can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

The St. Johns Family Funeral Home in St. Augustine, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.
