Last week to remove items from gravesite decorations not permanently attached

NC GAZETTE / WBRT RADIO
STAFF REPORT

Wednesday, March 13, 2019 — The deadline to remove decorations of gravestones at the Bardstown City Cemetery has been extended until the end of this week.

According to cemetery regulations, decorations that aren’t attached to the gravestone are prohibited from March through November due to the hazard they may pose to mowing and trimming the grass at the cemetery.

As of Monday, some decorations that aren’t mounted to the gravestone — including solar-power lights, wreaths and other items — were still in place in the cemetery.

Those items that aren’t attached to the gravestone will be removed. Headstone saddles with real or artificial flowers are acceptable as long as they are well attached, and no part of the decoration is dragging the ground.

Real and artificial flowers in vases that are mounted on the gravestone are acceptable. If the flowers become faded or decay, they may be removed. Most other decorations that are attached to the gravestone are acceptable as long as they don’t interfere with mowing or trimming.

Decorations that aren’t mounted to the gravestone will be cleared from the cemetery at the start of next week, Monday, March 18, 2019. Pleae remove any decorations you wish to keep from your loved ones gravestone before then. The removed items will be discarded.
