Kentucky State Police investigating fatal Saturday collision in Grayson County

Saturday, May 4, 2019 — Kentucky State Police Post 4 Troopers responded to a two-vehicle collision Saturday morning in Grayson County. At approximately 8:53 A.M. Central time, Post 4 received a call from the Grayson County Sheriff’s Department requesting KSP investigate a fatal collision near 2166 Spurrier Road in Grayson County.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Dale Darst, 65, of Leitchfield, was traveling north on Spurrier Road in a 1995 Dodge 1500 pickup belonging to the East Grayson County Fire Department when he crossed the center line and into the path of a 1999 Ford Explorer that was traveling south. Darst was returning to the fire house after responding to another collision that had occurred earlier in the morning.
The driver of the Ford Explorer was pronounced dead at the scene. Darst was transported to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. The identity of the deceased victim has not been released due to notification of next of kin.
The Kentucky State Police was assisted at the scene by the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Grayson County Coroner’s Office, Clarkson Fire Department, Grayson County Road Department and Grayson County EMS.
The accident is still under investigation.
