Three injured in Balltown Road head-on collision Monday afternoon

Monday, May 6, 2019 — The driver of a Ford Mustang suffered severe injuries Monday afternoon when his vehicle struck hit a pickup truck head-on while traveling east on Balltown Road near Pascal Ballard Lane.

According a Nelson County Sheriff’s Office press release, the Mustang crossed the center line and struck a westbound 2017 3500-series Chevrolet pickup truck head-on. The truck was occupied by driver Douglas Hamilton, 43, of Bardstown, and his passenger, Kathy Gokey, 49, also of Bardstown.

The identity of the injured driver of the Mustang has not been released. The vehicle was registered to an address in New Haven. The crash happened at about 4:30 p.m. Monday.

After the crash, the driver was trapped in Mustang, which subsequently caught on fire. Deputies and the driver of the pickup truck worked to prevent the fire from spreading while firefighters were enroute to the scene.

The driver was extricated by firefighters from the Nelson County and New Hope Fire Departments. The driver was treated at the scene by Nelson County EMS, then flown by medical helicopter to University Hospital for treatment of severe injuries sustained in the crash.

The occupants of the pickup truck were also treated at the scene by EMS and transported to Flaget Memorial Hospital.
