Friday, May 24, 2019 — A presentation covering bee product labeling requirements will be presented at the Monday, June 3, 2019, meeting of the Washington County Beekeepers Association.

LESLIE Y. COBB

Leslie Y. Cobb, R.S., the food labeling compliance specialist at the Kentucky Department of Public Health will be explaining the bee product labeling requirements for Kentucky Honey Producers at that meeting.

State law outlines the applicable package label requirements that producer/sellers of less than 150 gallons of honey per year off the farm must follow.

The state requires proper labeling for honey producers who wish to sell their products at a farmer’s market.

Cobb will review the applicable provisions and explain the labeling approval process.

She said the number one subject among complaints she receives is mislabeled products, including honey. In order to reduce the number of honey product labeling complaints, time permitting, attendees can bring a copy of their current label for her review as part of Kentucky Food Safety Branch’s free label review service.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2019, at the Washington County Extension Office, 245 Corporate Drive in Springfield. The 7 p.m. business meeting will be followed by Cobb’s presentation.

The meeting is open to the public.
