Monday, June 24, 2019 — The downtown bar owners seeking to extend alcohol sales to 2 a.m. in the city will present a proposal to the Bardstown City Council at its meeting Tuesday night to sell alcohol to 2 a.m. on up to 18 specific dates, five additional variable dates, as well as Fridays and Saturdays during the months of June and July.

If the approved by the council without modification, the coalition’s proposal would allow 2 a.m. alcohol sales on as many as 38 possible dates.

Comments by the council in earlier discussions indicate the members’ concern about how longer alcohol may affect the quality of life of downtown residents. The discussion at the June 13, 2019, committee meeting highlighted existing issues some bars are creating by not following local laws and ordinances.

MAYOR DICK HEATON

Mayor Dick Heaton told members of the coalition that ongoing problems with local bars made it difficult for the council to be motivated to extend the time for alcohol sales.

At the committee meeting, committee member David Dones gave the coalition members a list of 10 dates he said he believed the council could consider approving.
