Obituary: James Beatrice ‘J.B.’ Hutchins, 87, Bardstown

James Beatrice “J.B.” Hutchins, 87, of Bardstown, died Saturday, July 6, 2019, at Landmark of Bardstown. He was born March 22, 1932, in Nelson County to the late James Alfret and Mary Beatrice Settles Hutchins. He was a dairy farmer and loved playing checkers so much he was known as the “checker king.” He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers; and two half-brothers.

He is survived by many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with the Rev. Terry Bradshaw officiating. Burial is in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2019, with prayers at 5 p.m., and after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
