STAFF REPORT
Saturday, July 2, 2011, 12:55 a.m. — A man believed to be in his early 40’s was injured about midnight Friday when he crashed the ATV he was operating while trying to elude a Nelson County deputy sheriff in New Hope.
The man successfully escaped from the sight of the deputy during a pursuit; the deputy told dispatchers he was going to stop his cruiser and listen to see if he could hear the ATV. While looking for the ATV operator, the deputy discovered the man had crashed and was pinned under the 1996 Honda ATV near the New Hope cemetery. The deputy requested help to free the victim, and was assisted by another deputy and an off-duty officer who brought a nurse to attend to the victim.
The New Hope Fire Department was called to assist and create a landing zone for a medical helicopter at the New Hope ballpark. Nelson County EMS transported the victim to the ballpark where he was loaded onto the helicopter and transported to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
While checking the victim’s records, it was determined he had an active felony warrant for flagrant non-support and contempt of court.
