Monday, Aug. 12, 2019 — The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, Nelson County Fire Department and the Boston Fire Department were dispatched at about midnight Sunday night to a report of a semi tractor-trailer on fire in the eastbound lanes of the Bluegrass Parkway at the 11 mile marker.
When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they reported the trailer and the trailer were both fully engulfed by fire.
According to a sheriff’s office press release, the driver of the semi said his rig had a tire blow-out. He lost control of the rig, which hit a concrete barrier. The impact tore open the fuel tank and the fuel ignited. The rig was hauling non-hazardous electrical equipment.
The fire closed the parkway for several hours, and eastbound traffic was forced to exit at the Boston exit and detour through Bardstown.
No one was injured in the crash or resulting fire. The state highway department helped clean up the scene.
The investigation is continuing.
