Obituary: William Nile Masterson, 89, formerly of New Hope

WILLIAM NILE MASTERSON

William Nile Masterson, 89, formerly of New Hope, died Saturday, August 24, 2019. He was born in New Hope to the late Joseph and Ola Masterson. He was known for his sacrificial service to St. Vincent dePaul at St. Ignatius Martyr, a member of the Knights of Columbus Assumption Council, and the Eagle A.C. He worked as a machinist for Philip Morris and served his country in the United States Army. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, and Pappaw.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Christine Masterson; and one son, Gary Masterson.

Survivors include three daughters, Theresa Wheeler (Larry), Margaret Brown (Bernie), and Colleen Epps (Jeff); five sons, James Masterson (Donna), John Kevin Masterson, Brian Masterson (Rosemary), Bruce Masterson (Janet), and Nile Masterson (Bethany); one sisters, Sharon Archer; two brothers, Phillis Archer and the Rev. Donald Masterson; one daughter-in-law, Linda Masterson Hillerich; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019, at St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church, with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2019, at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road.

Memorial contributions may take the form of donation to St. Vincent dePaul at St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church.

The Ratterman and Sons Funeral Home in Louisville is in charge of arrangements.
