Obituary: Joseph Larry Cecil, 71, Loretto

Joseph Larry Cecil, 71, of Loretto, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2019, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. He was born Jan. 19, 1948, in Dant Station. He was a retired Environmental Engineer with Bayer Company in West Virginia. He served his country in U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era and he was a member of the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Joseph Jesse ‘Junior’ and Cora Elizabeth Kelty Ruley Cecil; and four half-brothers, Donnie Ruley, Bobby Ruley, Pete Ruley and Ray Ruley.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Janet Ballard Cecil; one son, Keith Cecil (Karen) of Louisville; two sisters, Linda Walls (Tony) and Phyllis Williams (Rich), both of Mount Washington; one half-sister, Betty O’Flynn (Pat) of Louisville; three brothers, Dean Cecil (Brenda) and Marvin Cecil, both of Dant Station and Wayne Cecil (Nancy) of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and one half-brother, Carl Ruley (Shirley) of Bardstown.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2019, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with the Rev. Bryan T. Lamberson officiating. Burial is in Lebanon National Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard. His fellow Honor Guardsmen will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation is 9-11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2019, at the funeral home.

Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto is in charge of arrangements.
