Obituary: Ronald Eugene ‘Gene’ Herndon, 75, Taylorsville

RONALD EUGENE “GENE” HERNDON

Ronald Eugene “Gene” Herndon, 75, of Taylorsville, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019, at his residence in Wakefield. He was born March 21, 1944, in Jefferson County to the late Roy and Emily Briggs Herndon. He was a farmer, a U.S. Army veteran, and was a member of Taylorsville Christian Church. He loved the Wakefield countryside where he grew up. He raised a family with his wife of 46 years, Nancy, and farmed his entire life. His wife, children, grandchildren, farm life, and fishing were the things he loved most.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Frances Holt, Elizabeth Bennett, and Lavon Yates; and two brothers, Carl Herndon and Bill Herndon.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Bryant Herndon; one daughter, Amanda Herndon of Taylorsville; two sons, Chad (Julie) Herndon of Taylorsville and Adam (Heather) Herndon of Bloomfield; one brother, Harold (June) Herndon of Mount Eden; nine grandchildren, Ethan, Madison, Grant, Mason, Logan, Peyton, Brittani, Lauren and Ethan; and five great-grandchildren, Shaylynn, Axon, Rilee, Leighton and Hamilton.

The funeral is 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019, at the Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home in Taylorsville with Bro. Tom Sparrow and Bro. Roger Hodge officiating. Burial is in Big Spring Cemetery.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2019, and after 9 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association.

The Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home in Taylorsville is in charge of arrangements.
