Elizabethtown woman dies in Thursday afternoon High Grove Road crash

Friday, Nov. 8, 2019 — An Elizabethtown woman with Nelson County ties died Thursday afternoon from injuries sustained in a crash on High Grove Road with a semi tractor-trailer.
According to the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, Samantha D. Smith, 31, formerly of Bardstown, was driving a 2004 Chrysler Pacificia minivan west on KY 48, High Grove Road when her vehicle dropped off the edge of the pavement. When the vehicle came back up on the pavement, it slid sideways into the path of an eastbound 2001 Peterbilt semi tractor-trailer rig operated by William L. Brown, 60, of Livingston.
The semi struck the minivan on the passenger side. Smith died at the scene. The man driving the semi was uninjured.
The crash is being investigated by Deputy Gary Sharp of the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office.
The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Nelson County EMS, the Nelson County Fire Department, Mount Washington Fire Department, and Kentucky State Police.
