Obituary: Martha Ann Simpson, 80, Bardstown

MARTHA ANN SIMPSON

Martha Ann Simpson, 80, of Bardstown, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019, at her residence with her family at her side. She was born Nov. 10, 1939, in Bardstown to the late James Clinton and Clara Aline Jury Ice. She was a graduate of Bethlehem High School. She worked for Jim Beam Distillery for 44 years and worked at her family business, Ice’s Produce, for several years. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, a former member of their choir, a children’s religion education instructor, Eucharistic Minister and worked for many years at the church picnic.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. Simpson and a sister, Ellen Marie Ice.

She is survived by five sons, Joseph Clinton Simpson of LaGrange, Eddie (Tina) Simpson, David (Sarah) Simpson, Timmy (Ann) Simpson, all of Bardstown, and James (Shannan) Simpson of Nicholasville; three sisters, Rita Elaine Hamilton (Ray) of Louisville, Betty (Bobby) Williams of Deatsville, and Jan (Robert) Terrell; one brother, Bucky Ice of Bardstown; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with the Rev. Tom Clark officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, 2019, and 8:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with a 7 p.m. Friday prayer service.

Expressions of sympathy can take the form of contributions to St. Thomas for Masses.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
