Deputy, K-9 uninjured after cruiser struck while at BG Parkway accident scene

Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2019 — A Nelson County Deputy Sheriff’s police cruiser suffered severe damage late Wednesday night when it was parked at the scene of a non-injury accident on the Blue Grass Parkway and was struck by another vehicle.

According to a press release from the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Levi Preston was stopped at the 17 mile marker at about 11:50 p.m. Wednesday to investigate a non-injury accident when his cruiser was struck by a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck operated by William Jewell of Paintsville.

Preston’s police cruiser was parked off the roadway with its emergency lights activated when it was struck by the pickup truck.

Neither Preston nor his K-9, Apollo, who was in his cruiser at the time of the collision, were not injured in the crash. The operator of the pickup truck was not injured despite both vehicles suffering severe damage.

Sgt. Jeremy Cauley of the Bardstown Police Department is investigating the crash.
