Barton, Brayden Crowe named Tri-County March for Babies ambassadors

Tuesday, July 11, 2011 — “In the spring of 2008, we discovered that there was going to be an addition to our family and that Camden was going to be a big brother. We were shocked at the first ultrasound to find that I was carrying twins!” said Debbie Crowe.

Within the next couple of months there were more suprises, the main one being that Debbie had Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS). With TTTS, the mother’s egg splits late, causing one baby to receive more nutrition than the other. The hope was to carry the babies to 34 weeks and Debbie was put on bed rest. Barton and Brayden were delivered on Christmas Eve at 28 weeks weighing 2.2oz and 2.6 oz, respectively. Today, Barton and Brayden are happy healthy boys.

Premature birth touches half a million babies and their families every year including 8,585 in Kentucky. That 8,585 is 15.2% of all babies born in Kentucky. Babies born too soon are more likely to die or have disabilities. The March of Dimes is committed to reducing this toll by funding research to find the answers to premature birth and providing comfort and information to families.

March for Babies is the March of Dimes premier fundraising event that benefits all babies—those born healthy as well as those who need help to survive and thrive. The Tri County March for Babies will take place on October 1rst at 9:30 a.m. at Bernheim Forest. Nelson, Bullitt, and Spencer County residents can sign up today to help fund lifesaving research and educational programs aimed at reaching the goal of giving every baby a healthy start.

The Crowe Family urges walkers and donors to visit marchforbabies.org or call toll-free 1-800-525-9255 to sign up as an individual, start a corporate, family or friends team, or donate to help babies be born healthy.

The March of Dimes would like to thank its national sponsors: Kmart, Farmers Insurance, Cigna, Famous Footwear, sanofi Pasteur, Bayer, FedEx, Continental Airlines, Mission Pharmacal, and First Response. Local sponsors include Publishers Printing and Flaget Hospital.
