Firefighters called when lightning blasts Edelen Ave. utility pole

Tuesday, July 12, 2011, 5 p.m. . — The Bardstown Fire Department was called to 506 Edelen Avenue for a utility pole that was on fire after being hit by lightning.

5:05 p.m. — Incident commander reports the lightning strike blew the top off the transformer and the transformer oil is burning. City utilities have been called to respond to the scene. Other firefighters are being asked to block off Edelen Avenue.
