Clara Elgetha Piles, 90, Bardstown

Clara Elgetha Piles, 90, Bardstown, died Monday, July 18, 2011, at Colonial Health and Rehab, Bardstown. She was the former Elgetha Downs, a native of Nelson County, a graduate of Bethlehem Academy, a homemaker and farmer, and member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Piles Sr.;  her parents, Russell and Myrtle Greenwell Downs; and a sister, Margaret “Pinky” Coulter.

Survivors include four daughters, Mary Ann Johnson, Pat (Jess) Riley, Donna (Jeff) Bereza, and Karen (Mike) Lyon, all of Bardstown; three sons, Erine (Bonnie) Piles, Eddie (Norma) Piles, and Joe (Lydia) Piles, all of Bardstown; a sister, Nancy Howard, Bardstown; two brothers, Kenny (Midge) Downs, Botland, and Melvin (Jodie) Downs, Chattanooga, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2011, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fredericktown with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. The Rev. Chris Allegra will be the celebrant.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwell Houghlin Northside Funeral Home in Bardstown with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
