Heavy rain, lightning ends bullriding, prompts early closure of county fair
STAFF REPORT
Tuesday, July 19, 2011, 9: 30 p.m. — Heavy rain and lightning cut short the “Bullmania” bullriding event at the Nelson County Fair Tuesday night. Organizers closed the midway and the other events about 9:20 p.m.
Heavy lightning from the storms traveling through the county from the north set off fire and burglar alarms across the city. At least two homes in the county were checked after they were believed to have been struck by lightning.
Per the Fair Board policy, in the event of rain, there are no rain checks or refunds.
The fair continues through Saturday. Bullriding and barrel racing will continue at the fair Wednesday night starting at 8 p.m.
