Police chief’s TV interview interrupted by disorderly stabbing victim
STAFF REPORT
Wednesday, July 27, 2011, 10 a.m. — Bardstown Police Chief Rick McCubbin was being interviewed Monday by Louisville’s WAVE TV 3 when his interview was unexpectedly interrupted.
While cameras were rolling, McCubbin said a man later identified as Patrick L. Dunlap of Bloomfield walked up and said he had been assaulted during an altercation with another man at Shorty’s Bar & Liquor on Banjo Street in Bardstown.

Dunlap asked police to go arrest the man who stabbed him while cameras continued to roll. While Dunlap explained to McCubbin and other officers what happened, additional officers emerged from the police station and subdued Dunlap and handcuffed him until an ambulance arrived.
At one point after officers had placed him in handcuffs, Dunlap posed a question to Assistant Chief Ray Lewis: “If someone stuck you in the belly — even if you’ve been drinking — wouldn’t you be pissed off?”
Dunlap was taken to Flaget Memorial Hospital where he was treated, released and arrested. In video of the incident, Dunlap can be seen waving a bloody hand at cameras. The video shows the woman who was with Dunlap being arrested by officers.
Police later arrested the alleged assailant, William Roy Riley, who told police he fought in self defense.
The incident was caught on video by both WAVE TV and a competing station, whose video is linked above.
