Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, 10:52 a.m. — Two boys who were lost in the woods for about an hour were found and brought to safety late Friday morning.
About 10:50 a.m., a state highway department truck reported they were approached by a male juvenile who asked for their help because two of his friends were lost in the nearby woods.
Police and the Bardstown Fire Department responded to the area of the old Heaven Hill distillery site on KY 49, the Loretto Road, to begin a search for the youths. Firefighters began their search at the old distillery site, directing crews to search the warehouse property off Gilkey Run Road as well as along the creek into the woods behind the old distillery site.
The boys — apparently two of which were brothers accompanied by a friend — were located by firefighters in the woods off behind the old distillery site. One of the boys complained of leg pain. Firefighters brought the youths out of the woods on a four-wheel-drive “gator.” The boy complaining of leg pain was checked out by EMTs and they determined he was OK. After EMTs contacted one of his parents, he and the other boys were released to the care of a parent.
