Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011, 1 a.m. — When the Bardstown City Council approved adding two additional officers in the recently approved 2011-12 budget, one thing the new officers would have to have were uniforms. And a new badge is part of an officers uniform.

McCubbin showed members of the Bardstown City Council a new police badge the department would begin to  issue its officers — a badge that was as unique as the city they are sworn to protect.

The idea for a badge that was uniquely Bardstown’s was one that McCubbin said had been on his mind for some time, especially with the possibility of the hiring of additional officers. He took his idea to one of the badge suppliers, and the shiny new shield he was wearing on his uniform was the result.

The badge McCubbin had was the first produced, he said. On the next ones issued the image of the Federal Hill mansion will have an antiqued finish to give the image more detail.

The Federal Hill mansion was selected for the Kentucky Quarter as it was one of the most easily recognizable of all Kentucky landmarks due to its connection with the state song.
