Two women injured after being ejected in SUV rollover crash

Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011, 6 p.m. — Two women were injured Wednesday afternoon after they were ejected from the SUV they were in after it rolled over near the 37 mile marker on the Blue Grass Parkway.

The call to Nelson County Dispatch came in aboutg 2:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Nelson County EMS, officers with the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, the Northeast Nelson Fire Department and Willisburg Rescue Squad responded to what was initially believed to be a two-vehicle accident.

The woman driving the Ford Explorer, believed to be about 35 years of age, was airlifted from the scene and taken to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment. EMTs reported she had an apparent fractured pelvis as well as mulitiple lacerations to her head, arms and legs. Her passenger was taken by EMS to the University of Kentucky Medical Center with unknown injuries.

Neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Traffic on the parkway was blocked for a time while crews treated the injured and the crash scene was cleaned up. First responders left the scene about 3:30 p.m.
