Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011 — The efficiency of the city’s recycling partnership with Nelson County Industries will be improving soon thanks to grant money that will allow the purchase of additional recycling trailers and conveyor equipment for use at the Guthrie Opportunity Center.
The council gave its unanimous approval to awarding bids for the recycling trailers and conveyor equipment at its Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011, meeting in the City Hall Annex building.
The conveyors will be used to help transfer the recycled material and to help workers sort it, Assistant City Administrator Larry Green told the council. The grant will help purchase two additional recycling trailers and two more 18-foot trailers for the 8-yard dumpsters used for plastics and cardboard.
One of the new recycling trailers will be placed at a new location, the second will be a spare that can be used to replace a trailer while it is being unloaded.
The council also awarded its tree-trimming bid to Asplundh Tree Expert Co.
WASTEWATER ORDINANCE. The council approved first reading of amendments to the city’s wastewater ordinance. City engineer Jessica Filiatreau explained the changes updated the language to meet federal guidelines, as well as set standards for pretreatment of industrial waste generators, defines parameters for reporting and better explains to industries what is expected of them to meet their permit requirements.
