Anna Marie Newton, 89, Bardstown

Anna Marie Newton, 89, of Bardstown, formerly of Holy Cross, died Monday, Aug. 15, 2011, at her son’s home in St. Francis.

She was born April 24, 1922, in Holy Cross, a former employee of Willett Distillery in Bardstown and a member of Holy Cross Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Albert Newton; her parents, Charles Marion and Lula Catherine Cissell Newton; two daughters, Susie Mattingly and infant Brenda Sue Newton; two sons, Carl and David Newton; two grandsons, Chris Satterly and Greg Curtsinger; a great-granddaughter, Tasha Douglas; four sisters, Elizabeth Nalley, Alice Cissell McIntyre, Ursula Riggs and Lula Taylor; four brothers, Robert, Charlie, J.P. and Tommy Newton; and two sons-in-law, Morris Mattingly and Donnie Satterly.

Survivors include a son, Jerry (Linda) Newton, St. Francis; four daughters, Pauline (Clarence) Curtsinger of Bloomfield, Mary Ann (Freddy) Willett, Nancy Mattingly and Judy Satterly, all of Bardstown; one son-in-law, Kenny Mattingly of Bardstown; one daughter-in-law, Jane Newton of Bardstown; two sisters, Dorothy Newton of Bardstown and Arletha Miles of Holy Cross; two brothers, Otho Newton (Katherine) of Loretto and Eugene Newton of Holy Cross; 27 grandchildren, 74 great-grandchildren and 29 great-great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011, at Holy Cross Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. R. Joseph Hemmerle will be the celebrant.

Visitation is noon-9 p.m. Tuesday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 5 p.m.

Pallbearers are grandsons, Keith Willett, Wayne Curtsinger, Jimmy Mattingly, Craig Mattingly, John Albert Newton and Jeremy Newton.  The rest of the grandchildren will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
