Bardstown man sought on forged-check charges arrested Tuesday

Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, 12:30 p.m. — The man who was indicted last week for allegedly forging checks that belonged to a local competitive cheerleading and gymnastics team was arrested Tuesday morning.
David W. Phelps, 32, of Bardstown, was arrested about 11:12 a.m. Tuesday, jail records show. He was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.
Phelps was indicted last week by a Nelson County grand jury over a series of checks that he allegedly forged on the account belonging to Bardstown All Stars, a non-profit organization that operates a competitive cheerleading and gymnastics program.
According to the indictment, Phelps alleged passed 10 checks totaling $3,062.54. Half of the checks – totaling $2,000 – were allegedly made out to Phelps. Three checks totaling $290 were allegedly passed at Handy Food Mart, and two checks totaling $872.54 were allegedly passed at Lowe’s Home Improvement Store in Bardstown.
Bail was set at $9,500 cash only plus conditions.
