Obituary: James Eugene ‘Jim’ Fawkes, 77, Bardstown
James Eugene “Jim” Fawkes, 77, of Bardstown, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2023, following a brief illness. He was born Aug. 6, 1945, in Olney, Ill., to the late Marshall Eugene and Kathryne Correll Fawkes.
He was a retired Nurse Anesthetist at Flaget Memorial Hospital after 40 years. He served in the Army and was a Vietnam veteran. He was a member of Bardstown Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, past chairman of the administrative council and was a member of the choir. He was also an active volunteer for the Hospital Auxiliary and was a 32nd degree Mason.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Damron Fawkes; two daughters, Susan (Steve) Sweat of Bardstown and Rachel (Matt) Harney of Cynthiana; two sisters, Marsha Steen of Colorado and Cindy Fawkes of Jacksonville, Ill.; one brother, Michael Fawkes of Jacksonville, Ill.; and 4 grandchildren, Daniel James Sweat, Grace Elizabeth Sweat, Conner Harney and Cooper Harney.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 20, 2023, at Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff McCarty officiating. Burial is in Bardstown Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, 2023, and after 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 20, 2023 at the funeral home.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Bardstown Baptist Church or the Nelson County Humane Society.
The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
