Obituary: Ernest Ray ‘Ernie’ Hutchins, 60, Bardstown

Ernest Ray “Ernie” Hutchins, 60, of Bardstown, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023, at Norton Women’s and Children’s Hospital. He was born Feb. 5, 1960, in Bardstown to the late John Cyrl and Mary Helen Pendergrass Hutchins. He was the head mechanic for SonBeam Leasing-Harvest Express. He liked camping and was of the Catholic faith. Ernie loved being with his wife, children, grandchildren and extended family and friends. He was a farmer and enjoyed working with his cattle (whom lovingly referred to as his herd).

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Calvin Hutchins.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Smith Hutchins; one daughter, Amanda Hutchins of Bardstown; one son, Justin Ray (Tonya) Hutchins of Bardstown;
two stepdaughters, Amanda (Shawn) Orweiler, and Melinda (Richard) Porter, both of Chesapeake, Va.; three sisters, Nancy (Wayne) Cecil of Chattanooga, Tenn., Helen Allen of Bardstown, and Reva Cook of North Carolina; four brothers, John (Joann) Hutchins, Sam (Sandra) Hutchins, Steve Hutchins and Ben (Angie) Hutchins, all of Bardstown, Robert (Nina Sue) Hutchins of Buffalo, and Terry (Lori) Hutchins of Harrodsburg; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

The family has followed his request for cremation and a celebration of life will be held at a later date and invitations will be sent out.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
