Obituary: Elizabeth Louise ‘Betty’ Newton, 87, Bardstown

Elizabeth Louise “Betty” Newton, 87, of Bardstown, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2023, at Landmark of Bardstown. She was born Sept. 30, 1935, in Holy Cross. She worked as a seamstress and was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and a former member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. She was a faithful member of the TOPS group.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Wayne Newton and Glenn Newton; two sons-in-law, Harvey Smith and Fred Dean; two grandsons, Michael Smith and Jason Smith; two great-grandchildren, Bailey Smith and Chloe Livers; one sisters, Ann Cissell; one brother Ray Clark; and the father of her children, Eugene Newton.

Survivors include three daughters, Karen Dean (Steve McCoy) and Debbie Blair (Bobby), both of Saint Francis and Lou Smith (Ike) of Greenbrier; two sons, Bill Newton (Vickie) and Gene Newton (Missy Miles), both of Saint Francis; nine siblings, Rita Reidel, June Fleming and Frank Clark, all of Colorado, Junior Clark and Don Clark, both of Greenbrier, Polly Lyvers and Marlene Armel, both of Bardstown, Darlene Armel of Indiana and Connie Redmon of Frankfort; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and numerous friends at Landmark of Bardstown.

Cremation was chosen. A Memorial Mass is 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023, at Holy Cross Catholic Church with the Rev. Richard Goodin officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Mattingly Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
