Obituary: Louis ‘Bert’ Murphy, 89, Bloomfield

Louis “Bert” Murphy, 89, of Bloomfield, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023, at his home. He was born Dec. 3, 1933, in Bardstown to the late John Lester and Mary Catherine Nalley Murphy. He was retired from Walnut Grove Farms. He loved to be outdoors fishing, being with his grandkids and great-grandkids. He was of the Catholic faith.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Avis Murphy; one grandson, Forrest Fuller; two brothers, Robert “Bobby” Murphy and Thomas Edward “Tommy” Murphy; one sister, Nancy Festervan; and one son-in-law, Kenny Murphy.

He is survived by two daughters, Pam (Tom) Edwards and Lori (Gary) Boblitt, both of Bloomfield; one son, Skip Murphy of Fairfield; six sisters, Shirley Phillips of Grand Rapids, Mich., Lamonda Sue “Monnie” Spalding, Bettye Bell, Mary C.”Catsy” Inman, Brenda (Harold) Foster, and Mary Alice Brown, all of Bardstown; seven grandchildren, Daniel Murphy, Nicole Sparks, Jessie Severns, Ethan Murphy, Krista Murphy, Bret Hardin and Maddie Hardin; and five great-grandchildren, David Severns, Raeann Severns, Abi Severns, Lily Severns and Trenston Parris.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home. Burial is in the St. Joseph Church Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023, and after 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023, at the funeral home.

The family request that contributions go to the Nelson County Humane Society.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
