Obituary: Norma Ann Downs, 88, Hopkinsville

Norma Ann Downs, 88, of Hopkinsville, died at 9:28 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023, at Christian Health Center.

NORMA ANN DOWNS

She was a native of Nelson County born Nov. 8, 1934, the daughter of the late James Proctor Barnes Rhodes and Ann Mable Cecil Rhodes. She was a homemaker, quilter, seamstress, and book enthusiast. She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Downs; and one daughter, Debbie Hancock.

Survivors include one daughter, Sheila Graves of Des Moines, Iowa; four sons, Dr. John B. (Aimee) Downs Jr. of Mount Eden, Tony (Julie) Downs of Simpsonville, S.C., Timmy (Alpha) Downs of Pembroke, and Todd (Tammy) Downs of Hopkinsville; two sisters, Wanda Mattingly of Lexington and Mary Rhodes of Louisville; one brother, James Proctor Barnes “Barney” Rhodes Jr. of Bardstown; 12 grandchildren, Jason (Lynne) Hancock, Kim Schlei, Dr. Chris (Aimee) Hancock, Walker Downs, Molly (Christian) Schmidt, Jessica Starks, Rachel Downs, Benjamin Downs, Whitney Graves, Kaleigh (Nate) Stout, Ashton (Aaron) Copass, and Shelby Downs; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The Funeral Mass is 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3, 2023, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Richard Meredith officiating. Burial is in Green Hill Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is 10-11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3, 2023, with a Rosary recitation at 11 a.m. at the Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home.

The Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home in Hopkinsville is in charge of the arrangements.
