Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023 — Nelson County Jailer Justin Hall gave his report to Nelson Fiscal Court. The discussion touched on the jail’s commissary fund, which one magistrate called the jailer’s “slush fund.” It was disclosed that state law says the commissary fund proceeds stay at the jail to improve the jail for the safety and comfort of the inmates. It was revealed during the discussion that the commissary fund at one time was turned over to fiscal court for its uses, which is contrary to state law. Running time: 27 minutes.
