Obituary: Francis Leon Donahue, 93, Bardstown
Francis Leon Donahue, 93, of Bardstown, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023, at Flaget Memorial Hospital. He was born Dec. 29, 1929, in Nelson County to the late John Francis and Mary Marie Mattingly Donahue. He was a retired employee of Ford Motor Co. after 34 years and was an U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of American Legion Post 121. In 1980 he started making rosaries and he enjoyed making them for many years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sue Vittitow Donahue; and one daughter, Cindy Ferguson.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Greenwell Donahue; two daughters, Diane (Joe) Hughes of Louisville and Sandra Renee (Keith) McGaughey of Waddy; two sons, Kent (Shawna) Donahue of Louisville and Jeffrey Leon Donahue of Mississippi; two stepdaughters, Mary “Peggy” Greenwell and Gail Robertson, both of Bardstown; four stepsons, Robert Eugene (Mary Ann) Greenwell Jr. and Richard Carl (Freida) Greenwell, both of Bardstown, James Earl (Martha) Greenwell and Joseph Paul (Deborah) Greenwell, both of Louisville; two sisters, Doris Gorman of Jacksonville, Fla., and Carol Tuttle of Lexington; three brothers, Thomas (Rose) Donahue and Jim (Betty Sue) Donahue, both of Bardstown, and Larry Donahue of Tennessee; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2023, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with the Rev. Terry Bradshaw officiating. Burial is in Resthaven Memorial Park.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, 2023, and after 8:30 a.m. tuesday, Feb. 14, 2023 with a Monday evening prayer service at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home.
