Obituary: John W. Hill, 85
John W. Hill, 85, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2023, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was born May 7, 1937, during the Great Flood, to Susan Della and Henry Milton Hill, at Blueball Farm,in Hardin County.

He attended Howevalley School until he “had all he needed and it was time to work.” He was drafted during the Cold War and served in Germany as a Nuclear Arms Transporter. While on military leave to attend his father’s funeral, he went to a square dance and met his “Rosie”. They married on May 25, 1963, raised seven children, and made their home in several locations throughout Kentucky: Cecilia, Cox’s Creek, Bloomfield, and Bardstown. They spent their last years in Louisville, under the loving care of their eldest daughter, Susie.
He worked at General Electric Appliance Park in Louisville for 37 years. He was a hard worker, spending his non-working time outside, caring for his lawn, tending to his flowers, and raising a garden. He was especially proud of his tomatoes and squash. He enjoyed daily walks on country roads, playing cards, listening to old country music, meticulously cleaning all the family cars, and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children as the dad who reminded them to save their money and the dad who worked so hard that he always fell asleep in his recliner. He was a converted Catholic and a long-time member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Fairfield.
