Obituary: Arthur ‘Russell’ Norris, 87, Springfield
Arthur “Russell” Norris, 87, of Springfield, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2023, at his home with his daughters by his side. He was born Aug. 12, 1935, in Nelson County. In the early 1950’s he worked at the Loretto Motherhouse farm where he met and married the love of his life. Over the years besides farming with his wife and family, he worked in construction, Donaldson Baking Co., Barton Distillery and he finally retired from Lebanon Oak Flooring. He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church for more than 30 years and prayed the rosary daily. He loved to fish, hunt, old westerns, telling stories, good jokes and sneaking chocolate to all the babies. He was a good daddy and grandpa and will be greatly missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Ann Norris; one son, Thomas David Norris; his parents, Arthur and Mary Agnes Norris; three sisters, Mary Dewitt, Catherine Smith and Lillian Johnson; and four brothers, William Norris, Lee Norris, Ernest Norris and Bernard Norris.
Survivors include four daughters, Sherry Little and Stella Norris, both of Springfield, Donna Bodie (Blaine) of Bardstown, and Theresia Peterson (Donald) of Loretto; five sons, Wayne (Julie) Norris of Hillsboro, Mo., Michael Norris of Lawrenceburg, John (Gina) Norris of Frankfort, James (Marjorie) Norris of Cynthiana and Christopher (Jackie) Norris of Springfield; one sister, Mary Lee Miller of Louisville; 21 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023, at St. Rose Priory Church in Springfield with his nephew, the Rev. T. Anthony Smith and the Rev. Edmund Ditton, O.P. officiating. Burial is in the Holy Rosary Cemetery in Manton.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m/ Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2023, at Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto with a 7 p.m. prayer service by the Rev. Kevin A. McGrath, O.P.
Pallbearers are Christopher Norris, Ricky Norris, Patrick Norris, Joseph Peterson, Ryan Newton, and Ethan Jackson.
Mattingly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
