Obituary: Brandon ‘Buck’ Scott Downs, 20

Brandon “Buck” Scott Downs, 20, died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023, in Cox Creek. He was born July 10, 2002, to Anthony Scott Downs & Melinda Watson Porter in Elizabethtown.

BRANDON “BUCK SCOTT DOWNS

He had a way of making life fun and wanted everyone around him to enjoy it as much as he did. He was fearless, loved Jesus and had a smile that would take over a room. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, with a passion for nature and wildlife. He took every opportunity to share his love of the outdoors with his family and friends. He enjoyed kayaking, and loved to ride anything with wheels, but he was especially fond of his ATV. He never knew a stranger, never found anything he couldn’t fix, and always put the needs of others before his own. He was a role model to his younger cousins, and a brother and son to many. His loved ones will cherish his memory, and forever miss their “B.”

As a young boy, he was a member of Boy Scout Troop 142, where he gained his love of the outdoors, and earned the nickname Sparky. He was a 2020 graduate of Salem High School in Virginia Beach, Va., where he was adored by his teachers, and known as a great friend to his classmates. He was involved in JROTC and Vocational Technical School where he enjoyed working on small engines, and gained ambition to become a mechanic, like his father.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Ernest Hutchins; his grandmother, Susan Modzelewski; and one cousin, Jeremy McCubbins.

Left to cherish his memory are his father, Anthony Scott Downs (Carrie) of Virginia Beach, Va.; his mother, Melinda Watson Porter (Richard) of Chesapeake, Va.; one sister, Madison Ann Downs of Bardstown; one stepsister Tiffany Porter; one stepbrother Tyler Porter; his grandparents, Ricky Watson, Kathy Hutchins, Pat Morris, Agnes Morris, Danny Downs, Susie Downs, Stephen Modzelewski, and Nenita Modzelewski; four uncles, Chucky Downs, Michael Morris (Alyssa), Taylor Morris and Justin Hutchins; four aunts, Amanda “Aunt Da” Orewiler (Shawn), Jennifer “Aunt Jenna” Gibson (Justin) and Amanda Hutchins; 14 cousins Brooklyn, Elijah, Catherine, Hannah, Austin, Adrian, Weston, Mason, Madelynn, Cadence, Abby, McKenzie, Aria and Kennedy; his girlfriend, Margaret “Marty” Curtsinger; and a host of extended family and friends.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Friday, March 3, 2023, at Barlow Funeral Home.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Thursday, March 2, 2023,, and 9-11 a.m. Friday, March 3, 2023,, at the funeral home.
