Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023 — The famous Budweiser Clydesdales will return to Bardstown for Derby Week in May and be part of a special parade on Thursday, May 4th.

MAYOR DICK HEATON

The team of famous horses, sponsored by Smith Brothers Distributing, will arrive Monday, May 1 and will stay through Derby weekend and leave Monday, May 8th.

At 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, the team will parade through downtown in all their equine glory. The team will leave the City Pool parking lot and travel east to North Fifth Street. The team will turn right to head south to West Stephen Foster Avenue. The team will turn left onto Stephen Foster and head to Court Square, where they will remain for 20 to 30 minutes for photos. From the Court Square, the team will go north to Broadway, turn left and return to the City Pool parking lot.

ROUNDABOUT WORK BY ST. JOSEPH SCHOOL. City Engineer Eric Richter told the council that the state’s Department of Transportation is going to pay the cost to relocate all of the utilities that need to be moved in order for the new roundabout to be built and create a new intersection with Cathedral Manor and West Stephen Foster.

The brick house on the corner of Cathedral Manor and Stephen Foster will be demolished in the next month, he said.

Utility customers will experience no interruption in service, he said.

The council approved the agreement with the state Department of Transportation.

In other business, the council:

— heard the mayor recap the previous night’s press conference regarding House Bill 5, the barrel tax bill. He noted that the Kentucky Distillers Association and the distillers have never asked the affected entities to come to the table and find a better solution. Most legislators are not aware of the impact HB 5 would have on the affected community, he explained.

— appointed Eric Garris to fill the remainder of a three-year term on the city’s Tree Board.

NEXT UP. The Bardstown City Council next meets at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, in the council chambers next to the city’s Rec Center gym on Xavier Drive.
