Obituary: Herbert ‘Louis’ Brothers, 87, Bardstown
Herbert “Louis” Brothers, 87, of Bardstown, died Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born Dec. 5, 1935, in Bardstown to the late Herbert and Leona Crume Brothers and was their youngest child.

His parents attended The First Cedar Creek Baptist Church and he grew up there and joined the church at 12 years of age, attending Sunday School and Bible Study. He met a lovely girl, Margaret Rose Hays at the skating rink in Gravel Switch. They dated for two years and in 1957, they were married at The First Cedar Creek Baptist Church. He was on the Building and Grounds and Cemetery Committees and installed the present Baptistery at the church.
He and his wife lived on the farm where he was born and raised over 80 years ago. They would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in December. He was a contractor, being a master plumber and building contractor and a jack-of-all-trades. He was a member of Dunavan Lodge #292 in Boston and a Kentucky Colonel. In his lifetime he enjoyed rock fishing, NASCAR, figure 8 racing, truck pulls, UK Basketball and bluegrass music. He was a member of The First Cedar Creek Baptist Church.
The family would also like to acknowledge his caregivers Imogene Morrow, Wanda Lewis, Jenny Lovingood and others who have helped with his care.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Geneva Johnson; and two brothers Namon Brothers and Rudolph Brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret Rose Hays Brothers; one daughter, Angie (Eddie) McCubbins of Bardstown; one son, Dennis (Cindy) Brothers of Elizabethtown; one grandson, Ethan (Ashlan) Berry of Bardstown; two great-grandchildren, Knox Berry and Hank Berry.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at The First Cedar Creek Baptist Church with Bro. Victor Bramlett and Bro. Gerald Hegwood officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2023, with a 7 p.m. Masonic service at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, and 9-11 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at The First Cedar Creek Baptist Church.
The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
