Charles W. ‘Chip’ Donahue, Jr., 78, Bardstown

Charles W. “Chip” Donahue, Jr., 78, of Bardstown, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown.

He was born Dec. 15, 1932, in Nelson County.  He was a Korean War Army veteran, retired from Container Corporation of America, a member of the American Legion Post 121, a Kentucky Colonel, a volunteer for St. Vincent DePaul and a member of St. Joseph Parish.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Helen Fowler Donahue; an infant daughter, Mary Donahue; a daughter, Joan Renee Donahue; his parents, Charles William, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth “Bessie” Fogle Donahue; and two brothers, Joseph Lester Donahue and J. L. Donahue.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Mary Geneva Miles Rogers Donahue; two daughters, Patricia Gayle (Don) Woods of Louisville and Kathy Ann (Harry) Vittitow; six sons, Charles Donald (Kim) Donahue of Baltimore, Md., Joseph Donald (Cheryl) Rogers, Robert Glenn (Leah) Rogers, Stephen Andrew (Melissa) Rogers, Bruce Alan (Tracey) Rogers and Christopher Duane (Kellie) Rogers, all of Bardstown; a brother, Jim Donahue of Culvertown; five sisters, Gladys Corder, Louise Miller and Delores Downs, all of Louisville, Sr. Laverne Donahue, OSF of Springfield, Ill., and Beulah Clark of New Hope; 20 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren,

A Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. The Rev. Joseph Batcheldor will celebrate.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, and after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.  A prayer service will be 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Vincent DePaul Mission Store.
