Gladys Barnes, 84, Bardstown

Gladys Barnes, 84, of Bardstown, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at her residence. She was born Sept. 13, 1926, in Nelson County, was a lifelong homemaker, a former employee of Bardstown Sewing and Bardstown Laundry, a member of the Baptist faith and an avid quilter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Van Golden Barnes; her parents, Jessie Floyd and Myrtle Hardin; a brother, George Hardin; and two sisters, Nellie Web and Margie Sharp.

She is survived by a son, Elmer Ray Barnes of Bardstown; a daughter, Betty Gene Harrell of Bardstown; a sister, Marie Baker of Harrodsburg; two grandsons; four great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 5, 2011, at Mann and Greenwell Funeral Home with burial in the First Cedar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Isaac Ferguson will officiate.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011, at Mann and Greenwell Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Nelson County.
