Joseph Carroll ‘Joe’ Downs, 77, Raywick
Joseph Carroll “Joe” Downs, 77, of Raywick, passed away Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at Cedars of Lebanon Nursing Center in Lebanon.
Born June 23, 1934, he was a Marine Corps veteran, former truck driver and member of St. Francis Xavier Church.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Diane Downs; two sons, Joey and Chris Downs; two brothers, Charlie and infant William Robert Downs; one granddaughter, Allison Hamilton; and his parents, Thomas Hayes and Anna Lee Gribbins Downs.
Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Marie Downs of New Haven; four sisters, Ann Fowler and Mary Lou Bright (David) all of Louisville, Theresa Thomas (Jimmy) of Raywick, Rose Mills (Mike) of Mount Washington; two brothers, Tommy Downs (Lou) of Howardstown and Jimmy Downs of Raywick; a sister-in-law, Margaret Downs of Raywick; a grandson, Christopher Derek Downs of Lebanon; an aunt, Aline Hornlein of Los Angeles, Calif; a companion, Lucille McElfresh of Raywick; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Raywick with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. James W. Graf will be the celebrant. Military Rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at Mattingly Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Deacon Joseph R. Dant officiating.

Pallbearers are Jimmy Thomas, Mike Mills, Marcy Thomas, Stuart Thomas, Jimmy Fowler, Mike Bright, Kenny Salerno and Bobby Joe Shofner.
