Sally Boone Schweitzer Potter, 85, Bardstown

Sally Boone Schweitzer Potter, 85, died Monday, Sept. 5, 2011, in Bardstown.  She was born September 22, 1925, in Louisville to Kathleen and Roy Boone.  She graduated from Holy Rosary Academyand held the office of senior class president.  She attended Spalding College in Louisville and worked for Reynolds Aluminum as an executive secretary.

She was a life-long volunteer and a longtime member of the Bardstown Woman’s Club and served in many positions including president.  She received a “Keep America Beautiful” award from President Ronald Reagan for her outstanding achievement in making the Clean Community System an outstanding volunteer action program.  She volunteered and was a member of the Flaget Memorial Hospital auxiliary and also volunteered weekly at her church and regularly with the Meals on Wheels program.  She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for 62 years.

She was an avid golfer and held the title of club champion at My Old Kentucky Home County Club in 1980. She played for many years at her club and aroundKentuckyin “Ladies Day” golf tournaments.  Sally and her husband, Ed Potter, enjoyed many years of golf together.  She was very proud of her “hole in one.” She will be remembered by those left behind as a loving wife and mother. Known to her grandchildren as “Mimi,” she was an enthusiastic golf partner and friend to many. There was little that she looked forward to more than spending Thursday evenings at the country club with friends.

She is survived by her husband, Edward Potter of Bardstown; her daughter, Sherrill Schweitzer (Charles) Hays of Bowling Green; two sons, Randall Jay (Kay) Schweitzer and Ronald Lewis (Jackie) Schweitzer, all of  Louisville; two stepsons, David (Mary Anne) Potter and Steve Potter; three stepdaughters, Jeanne Potter (Mike) Jones, Lisa Potter (Jack) Jones, and Linda Potter Martin; a sister, Yvonne B. Waddle all of Louisville; two granddaughters, Jennifer Boone Hays of Lexington and Kelly Jay Schweitzer of Louisville; two great-granddaughters, Lindsay Boone Whitaker of Lexington, and Lilly Schweitzer of Louisville; and three grandsons, Jason Charles Hays of Bowling Green, David Schweitzer and Jay Schweitzer both of Louisville.

Her Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral, with burial inthe church cemetery. The Rev. Bill Hammer will officiate.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Barlow Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 6 p.m.
