Mary Bonner ‘Ish’ McKay Carothers, 91, Bardstown

Mary Bonner “Ish” McKay Carothers, 91, of Bardstown, died Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, at Flaget Memorial Hospital.  She was born June 18, 1920, in Bardstown. She was a former president of the Bardstown PTA, founding member of the Bardstown Historical Review Board, the executive director of the Bicentennial for Bardstown, member of Old Kentucky Home Country Club, Bardstown Garden Club, and Bardstown Baptist Church, and an avid golfer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Freeman Carothers; her parents, Tom and Margaret McKay; a brother, Phil McKay; and two sisters, Sis Fowler and Monie Saltsman.

She is survived by two sons, Jimmy (Betty) Carothers of Peachtree City, Ga., and Burke (Theresa) Carothers of Bardstown; two grandchildren, Judge Carothers, and Kate Carothers Smith both of Louisville; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2011 at Bardstown Baptist Church with burial in Bardstown Cemetery. The Rev. Dylan Mays will officiate.

Visitation is noon-6 p.m. Sunday at Barlow Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may go to Bardstown Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
