Driver leaves accident scene after crashing truck into Cox’s Creek
Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, 9:11 a.m. — The Bardstown Fire Department, Nelson County EMS and officers from the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a possible injury accident on KY 509 at the bridge over Cox’s Creek near Hobb’s Lane. When first responders arrived they found an unoccupied 4-door pickup truck off the road down an embankment and in the creek. No one was in the vehicle or in the area. While officers and firefighters were on the scene, the man who was operating the truck called Nelson County Dispatch to report that he had been picked up from the scene and was OK and en route to an address on Murphy Lane near Bloomfield. Investigating officers asked dispatchers to contact the driver and request he return to the scene.
A wrecker request was expedited due to fuel that apparently was leaking from the vehicle. Firefighters stayed at the scene until the truck was removed from the creek.
The truck heavily damaged the guard railing on the bridge, police said. Officers were going to attempt to contact the driver at the Murphy Lane address.
