Broken natural gas line temporarily closes Bloomfield Road
Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, 3 p.m. — Bloomfield Road was shut down for a short time Wednesday afternoon while a broken natural gas pipeline was crimped off near the intersection of Bloomfield Road and Buchannan Avenue.
The Bardstown Fire Department was called after a contractor working in the area apparently broke a 1-inch gas line aboug 2:30 Wednesday afternoon. Representatives from LG&E responded as well and determined there was no valve to turn off gas supply to the line. Fire Chief Anthony Mattingly declared a Level One Hazmat response.
Firefighters and police closed Bloomfield Road to traffic while the utility crews worked to crimp the broken gas line and stem to flow of gas. Traffic was routed temporarily around the area via Buchannan and Pennebaker avenues.
