James Clayton Tharp, 70, Loretto

James Clayton Tharp, age 70, of Loretto, died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011, in Lebanon. He was born Aug. 8, 1941, in St. Francis. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and former employee of G.E. Appliance Park in Louisville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alson Isaac “Buck” and Anna Louise Newton Tharp; one brother, Donald Michael Tharp; and one brother-in-law, Rogger Caudill.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Linda Wheeler Tharp; one daughter, Julie Tharp of Loretto;  eight sisters, Angie Caudill of Mount Washington, Dorothy Masterson of New Hope, Sue Smith (Eddie) of Loretto, Jeketa Leake, Lucy Tharp, Debbie Tharp and Phyllis Hutchins (Pat), all of St. Francis, Beverly Leake (Timmy) of Raywick; and one brother, Bug Tharp (Connie) of  Washington State.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011 at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with  Bro. Larry Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery, Saint Francis, where military rites will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.
