Driver, 20, airlifted to Louisville after car strikes tree on Poplar Flat

Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, 10:45 p.m. — A 20-year-old Bardstown man was airlifted to a Louisville hospital for treatment of injuries after the car he was driving left the road and struck a tree in the 1100 block of Poplar Flat Road. First-responders reported the impact caved in the driver’s side of the four-door car approximately two feet. The man complained of severe abdominal pain. Nelson County EMS transported the man to the parking lot of Parkway Baptist Church where the Bardstown Fire Department set up a landing zone for the medical transport helicopter. The man was flown to University Hospital for treatment. The accident happened about 10:20 p.m. The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office investigated the accident.

At about the same time, the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office worked a non-injury accident on Woodlawn Road between American Drive and Double Springs Road. A car left the roadway and  hit the ditch. No one was injured in that crash.
