Loretto Blair, 93, Bardstown
Loretta Blair, 93, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, at Jewish Hospital-Shelbyville. She was born April 30, 1918, in Nelson County. Loretta graduated from Bethlehem Academy and Spalding College, started her career in a one room schoolhouse at Riverbend near Cedar Creek. She went on to teach at St. Thomas Elementary and retired as principal in 1985. She was a member of St. Thomas Parish.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, James Arthur Blair; her parents, Miles Edward and Rose Eleanora Cecil Edelen; three brothers, Bobby Edelen, Paul Edelen and Charles Edelen; and four sisters, Nelson Hite, Eva Brown, Dorothy Wagoner and Martha Spalding.
Survivors include one son, James David (Rose) Blair of Bardstown; two daughters, Rose Ann (Ed) Nipp of Frankfort and Mary Jane (Paul) Howell of Richmond; a brother, Marion Edelen of Bardstown; a sister, Lila Farnsworth of Deatsville; five grandchildren, Shannon (Michael) Quinn, Becky Blair, Elizabeth Blair, Virginia Blair and Will Lyons; three great-granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011, at St. Thomas Church with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Jeffrey Hopper will celebrate.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mann and Greenwell Funeral Home. A prayer service will be 6 p.m. Tuesday conducted by Deacon Sam Filiatreau.
Memorial contributions may take the form of contributions to Bethlehem High School or St. Thomas Church.
