Teen dies in Monday after-school single-vehicle rollover crash
Monday, Oct. 17, 2011, 8:55 p.m. — Kayla Sallee, a 14-year-old Bloomfield girl, died Monday afternoon in a single-vehicle rollover crash on Old Bloomfield Road.
She was the rear seat passenger in a Volkswagen Beetle being driven her sister, Megan Nicole Sallee, 17, also of Bloomfield. Police say the vehicle ran off the roadway in an area of Old Bloomfield Road known to teens as “thrill hill” due to its unusual curves and contours. It is also the site of a number of previous crashes and at least one fatality.
The front-seat passenger in the car has been identified as Justin Case, 17, who apparrently was ejected in the crash and was found unconscious on the roadway by those who arrived on the scene right after the accident. Case was taken by Nelson County EMS to American Fuji Seal where he was flown by helicopter to University Hospital in Louisville. Megan Sallee was taken by Nelson County EMS to Flaget Memorial Hospital.
