John Hannon “Big John” Thompson, 54, of New Haven, died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011, at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born to the late Patrick Xavier “Pat” Thompson and Teresa Marie Boone Thompson. He was a Catholic by faith, a 1975 graduate of Nelson County High Schooland was employed by Certified Construction inVine Grove.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister Mary Jo Thompson.
Survivors include his mother, Teresa Boone Thompson; one daughter, Nichole Thompson; one son, Aaron Thompson; two sisters, Regina“Gina” Jacobs of Berea and Teresa “Terrie” Morgan of Rineyville; four brothers, Steven “Gilbert” Thompson, Frank Thompson, Michael “Mike” Thompson, and Larry Thompson, all of New Haven; three grandchildren, Tyler, Jaylene, and Chad Hughes; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at St. Catherine of Alexandria Church in New Haven with burial in the Church cemetery,
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, and 8-11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven.
